Can You See What I See - the importance of a site map

The Importance Of A Site Map

A sitemap is a file residing on your web server, in which you list the web pages of your site, to inform search engines about how your site content (pages) is organized. Search engine web crawlers (web spiders, bots) read the file to more intelligently crawl your site. Ideally, if your site’s pages are properly linked, web crawlers can usually discover most of your site. Even so, a sitemap is a helpful tool that can improve the crawling of your site, particularly if your site meets one of the following criteria:
  • Your site is new with few external links
  • Your site  is large.
  • Your site has many archived pages.
  • Your site has many videos and animations with not much content on pages.

Finally your website's sitemap, can provide valuable information such as metadata associated with the pages you list within it: Metadata is information about a webpage, such as when the page was last updated, how often the page is changed, and the importance of the page relative to other URLs in the site.

Whats in an email

Throughout my career in web marketing I’ve worked with many clients and employers who embarked upon an email marketing with no idea of what works for them. The following is some good practices when creating the actual email for the campaign. I will also add information on scrubbing your list and analytics over the next few post.

The design: The email should be no more than 600 pixels in width. Your message should be in a text format just in case the receiver does not download you images. Images are there to enhance the message only. Limit the images in your email and make sure they are created in the size you need for the email. Within Outlook images that are cropped in email programs or in the html code will display at their original size and make your email look funny. When dealing with images always use the Alt tag and give a brief one to three word description of the image. You should try to include the name of the image in the description. If no one opens your email you still can earn some SEO points because by doing this.  Do not use gradients in emails unless its within an image. Many email clients throw out the coding for gradients and do not replace it. Use bgcolor or back ground color to give you email some color. Next we will tackle your subject line.

How much does a website cost ?

Websites vary in cost. The cost is based upon many different factors. Factors can ranges from the size of the company to whether or not you get someone who is freelance. Other factors can include whether you choose a template or have a person or agency create a custom design. If you need an e-commerce site it will be extra. How much will depend on if you want a full store or just a few Paypal links. When it comes to professionalism, many times you get what you pay for, so don’t cheat yourself or your customer. At Fuzion I. T. Solutions site range from three hundred fifty dollars to develop a simple one to three page website, to in the thousands for more complex sites and e-commerce sites.

Are there hidden cost in
building and maintaining a website ?

Many people don’t realize that a website is part of a package. You have to purchase a URL, hosting, and have someone or a company design and develop (build) the site. The URL should not cost more than fifteen dollars, if it is available. Hosting with a company like GoDaddy or a start up hosting company should cost approximately sixty dollars a year.

Is there a difference between a
web designer and web developer ?

Yes, there is a difference between a web designer and a web developer. You  can think of a web designer as an architect and a web developer as a general contractor. One has the responsibility of drawing or designing the structure and the others actually does the build out. They are often look at as the same but they have two different skill sets.
